WASHINGTON — A man wearing all black and a baseball cap stood in the doorway of his home Monday amid the chaos of a city shooting that left five people dead, including an aide to Vice President Mike Pence.

Police escorted him inside after they found him standing over a handgun on his driveway, a police spokesman said. Police were still interviewing witnesses Monday.

Police say they have found multiple weapons in the home of Paul Pelosi, the victim’s father. Pelosi was wounded in the attack on his Washington, D.C., home. His daughter, who was home at the time, was unhurt. Video from security cameras shows him in a kneeling position, apparently wounded, as he repeatedly asks police to help him as he clutches a handgun.

One local TV station says the attacker was wearing a hood and balaclava, with police saying his injuries were consistent with handgun wounds. The gunman remained at large Monday evening, but police said he was “armed and dangerous.”

Hours after the shooting, police said they would be making an arrest, saying they had found “no credible threats.”

The shooting began in the driveway of the home.
