Review: Outlaw country star gets the respect she deserves in ‘The Return of Tanya Tucker’

When Outlaw country artist Tanya Tucker returns to the country scene, fans are bound to have big feelings about her. Fans love her style, her music, and her work ethic — and it shows.

And on the heels of her highly anticipated second album, Tanya’s got the spotlight back on her and her voice. Her music is a powerful instrument, and so is her voice.

Her new single, “The Return of Tanya Tucker,” has been climbing up the charts and will have a debut at No. 2 on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart July 8.

“She just doesn’t quit,” said her husband and manager, Mark Toney Jr. “The fact that her music and lyrical content are so compelling and relevant speaks volumes to her and the success she’s had.”

Tanya was born in North Carolina, and raised in a very small town in Iowa. She started writing and recording songs at the age of 13, and at the age of 19 was voted “Favorite Female Artist” by her high school class. And at age 33, after only five years of songwriting, she’s getting her first chance to release an album.

She’s been signed since 2001 to Warner Bros., but her contract doesn’t extend until 2015. But Tanya just signed a new deal with Columbia Records, and expects it will be fully confirmed in the next few weeks. And, no matter what happens with her new contract, Tanya’s voice is as strong as ever.

“It’s not what I’m best known for, but I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing,” she said. “It’s been four years, and at the end of the day, the one thing I’m going to keep doing is writing songs.”

Here are 10 things you should know about the versatile Tanya Tucker. Here’s what she’s been writing lyrics for.
