Serena Williams sets new record with Australian Open title

See how Serena Williams became one of the all-time greats this week.

On Friday, Serena Williams set a new record by winning her second Australian Open title of the year, defeating Jelena Ostapenko in just under three hours and two minutes. It was Williams’ first major title since winning the Australian Open in 2010 and was the fourth time she won a Grand Slam title in 2012.

It also marked the eighth time Williams won an Australian Open singles title. The previous record for an Open singles champion was held by Billie Jean King, who had won five titles in the Open era. It was Williams’ fourth career Grand Slam title, surpassing Steffi Graf’s record from the 1995 US Open.
